In February 2026, OnCoord completed an important enrichment of Mexico data using SEPOMEX postal data to add postal codes to address points and venues. This update introduces additional geographic context across the index, improving search precision when a postal code is included and helping distinguish between results that share similar names but belong to different postal areas.
Why this matters
Postal codes are an important part of addressing in Mexico. When a postal code is present in a query, it can significantly narrow the candidate set and increase confidence in the returned match. This is especially valuable in dense urban regions where street names, venues, or neighborhoods may repeat across nearby areas.
What was updated
Postal codes were added to address and venue data across multiple sources throughout Mexico. In total, this enrichment updated over 37 million features:
- OpenAddresses: 34M address points
- OpenStreetMap: 1M address points and 2.1 million venues
- OnCoord: 97K venues
Result: Better matching when a postal code is supplied, and clearer separation between similar matches that fall into different postal code areas.
How it works
Postal code enrichment is now integrated directly into the OnCoord data build process. As a result, applications automatically benefit from improved matching when postal codes are included in a request—without requiring any changes to existing integrations.
This work is part of OnCoord’s ongoing focus on improving geocoding quality across Latin America by combining open-source datasets with authoritative boundary information where it provides measurable accuracy gains.
