Data returned by the OnCoord API is sourced from open datasets that require attribution if you publicly display or redistribute the results (e.g., on a map or in a report). For most personal or internal uses, no action is needed. If you plan to share or publish geocoded data, please review the linked licenses to ensure compliance.
OpenAddresses
OpenAddresses is “the free and open global address collection.” It aggregates street addresses, house numbers, postal codes, and coordinates from official sources.
In Latin America, data is indexed from governments in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and others.
License metadata (per-source) is provided under CC0, though individual datasets may require attribution or share-alike. See the repository for details.
Who’s on First
Who’s on First is a community-maintained gazetteer of global places—including countries, regions, cities, and neighborhoods.
Who's on First is used normalize location names and embed stable WOF IDs in responses.
Licensed under a permissive Community Data License Agreement (CDLA) or CC-BY, with source-level attribution required.
OpenStreetMap (OSM)
OpenStreetMap is “a free, editable map of the whole world,” built by volunteers. In Latin America, it delivers detailed roads, landmarks, buildings, and natural features.
Data is updated frequently thanks to Open Street Maps, OpenAddresses, and Overture Maps communities.
Data is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL): attribution is required and any public use or derivative database must be shared alike.
Overture Maps
Overture Maps is an open, collaborative map data project founded by industry leaders including Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and TomTom.
Overture provides regularly updated datasets including buildings, places and other geocodable features.
Data is provided under the Overture Maps Foundation Terms of Use.
Copernicus GLO-30 Digital Elevation Model
The Copernicus GLO-30 DEM is a
global digital elevation model at 30-metre resolution derived from the TanDEM-X mission.
It is used by OnCoord to provide elevation, slope, and aspect data via the
/v1/elevation and
/v1/sitedata endpoints.

WorldPop
WorldPop
is an open-access population distribution dataset produced by the University of Southampton.
It is used by OnCoord to provide population density and radial population counts via the
/v1/population endpoint.
Data is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). Attribution is required when population data is publicly displayed or redistributed.
NASA Black Marble (VNP46A4)
NASA Black Marble VNP46A4
is an annual gap-filled composite of VIIRS Day/Night Band radiance at ~500m resolution,
produced by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. It is used by OnCoord to provide activity
levels and development index scores via the
/v1/activity endpoint.
This dataset is in the public domain with no restrictions on use or distribution. Attribution is not required but is recommended.
OnCoord Sourced
OnCoord sources point-of-interest (POI) data from public websites. This enriches OnCoord’s index with detailed amenity listings and business locations.
